Same-sex marriage has been widely debated in many countries for a long time. Nowadays, it is still an important issue since it concerns basic morals and human rights. It goes without saying that those against same-sex marriage usually maintain that marriage is between a man and a woman; same-sex marriage will weaken the institution of marriage, and some also object to it on religious grounds. Many people believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it goes against their morals and the definition of marriage. Some people say that, ‘the homosexuality is a pathological behavior’, but I cannot agree with their opinions. I believe that same sex marriage should be legal for the reasons below.
First, marriage, in itself, is the highest level of commitment between any couple, regardless of their sexual orientation. Marriage is a public contract between two individuals who choose to be together. As far as I am concerned, I completely agree with this statement. California, Hawaii, and New York all have domestic partnership laws and civil partnerships meaning that it is basically a marriage without the matrimony. Every couple has the ability to have a joint bank account, pay bills together, and live in the same house. Unfortunately, for homosexuals, they do not have the same rights or abilities in most states. I think marriage benefits should be available to all couples, and no matter what their sexual orientations are. Gay marriages are banned; homosexuals do not have the same benefits as normal couples. When filing for health care or insurance, they are not allowed to include each other. Also, for surgical needs, people that have straight marriages can make life altering decisions for each other, but for homosexuals, the partners are not legally allowed to do that. Confronted with this situation, I believe same sex marriage should be legal to provide
