2. Why shouldn’t gay marriage be allowed? a. Gay marriage is wrong. It is supposed to be between a man and a woman, not between two people of the same gender. 3. Opposition leader: Tony Abbott 4. Marriage is defined as “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.” 5. Gay Marriage will affect the lives of children who have gay parents. b. Children need the benefit of having a mother and a father in their lives not just two mothers or two fathers. Having two parents of different genders give influence to children’s lives that they could not get in a home of homosexual parents. 6. The Social Security System will be majorly affected. c. If gay marriage is legalized there will be “millions of new dependents that will be entitled to survivor benefits.” This could potentially cripple the system because of higher demands for benefits. 7.
