Summary of Portfolio 37
Introduction to Portfolio
This portfolio is a collection of findings and research done on different topics relating to sustainability and environmental management systems. This portfolio consists of four reflectives which are:
Reflective 1: Impacts of Gas Flaring
Reflective 2: Desertification: Causes and Effects
Reflective 3: Impacts of Deforestation on the Ecosystem
Reflective 4: Environmental and Health Impacts of Waste Management
These topics will be thoroughly researched by the author who will give a report on the findings made and give a summary at the end of the report. These topics have been chosen as they are issues which concern not just a locality but the world as a whole. In order not to jeopardise the future, sustainability is very key and should be taken very seriously.

Impacts of Gas Flaring
The impacts of gas flaring have been known to be very severe and even deadly and one wonders why this dastardly act is still being practiced in some countries. Gas flaring is the wasteful and polluting practice of burning off gas which is released during the course of oil production. This act of flaring releases toxic substances such as nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, benzene, particulate emissions, to mention a few into the atmosphere. As was mentioned earlier, some countries are still flaring gas but for the purpose of this paper, Nigeria will be considered as it is the second
