A 1986 Cult-Classic Mystery Film, Blue Velvet

During the late 70’s and throughout the 80’s, the sexual revolution was sweeping the nation and sex was becoming a more permissive topic of discussion. Many movies released around this time, capitalized on this and included sexual themes. Blue Velvet is no exception to this. Blue Velvet is a 1986 cult-classic mystery film the title of which coming from a song of the same name. The film follows a college student named Jeffrey who returns home after his father suffers from a stroke. While walking home form visiting his father in the hospital, Jeffrey finds a severed ear in a vacant lot. He brings the ear to a detective, who happens to be the father of an old acquaintance named Sandy. Jeffrey and Sandy reunite and she divulges information on the case, including a lounge singer named Dorothy who may be involved in the case. As in any good mystery movie, a pair of teenagers can obviously uncover the truth better than the local police force, so the pair take to investigating into Dorothy themselves. This includes Jeffrey stealing her spare key
But since staying still and not knocking everything in the closet over seems to be impossible for him, she discovers him and threatens to kill him while wielding a kitchen knife. Believing he is merely a young voyeur watching her undress, she ‘turns the tables’ on him and orders him to undress. Then like any woman would upon finding an intruder in her apartment, Dorothy begins to perform acts of oral sex upon him. A knock at the door disrupts them and she forces him to return to the closet where he witnesses a bizarre sexual encounter between her and her visitor Frank (who refers to himself as both ‘Daddy’ and ‘Baby’), including gas-inhalation; dry humping; and sadomasochism. It is revealed that Frank kidnapped her husband and child and is forcing her to perform sexual favours for him. After he leaves, Dorothy then attempts to seduce Jeffrey again, asking him to hit
