This reading relates thematically to the reading “Landscapes of Racial Violence,” authored by Laura Pulido, through its discussion on the racially motivated violence that has been a major aspect of California’s history. Pulido briefly discussed the systematic racism and discrimination that Mexicans and Latinos faced in California during the twentieth century. Conveniently enough, Pulido referenced the works of Gonzalez-Day in her own writings. Also, Pulido discusses erasure much in the same manner that Gonzalez-Day does. Both authors believe that ignorance towards history, specifically violent history, is an injustice towards the victims and the survivors of the past. Their main argument is that history cannot at any costs be forgotten or ignored because it is an integral part of life, even in today’s society.
