The story “All Summer in a Day” is written by Ray Bradbury.
The story is set on the planet Venus, where life is troublesome. It has been continuously raining for seven years, and the sun is supposedly coming out. The children have been waiting for this moment all their lives. Margot, however, saw the sun when she was four, and hasn't seen it since. This led to jealousy. The jealousy has led to mean and rude actions, which lead to sorrow and regret. Will jealousy get the best of them this time?
William shows the biggest sign of jealousy. This makes his attitude, his normal, bratty. He is bratty towards the whole class, but mainly Margot. One example of this is, when Margot read her poem, “The …show more content…
sun is like a flower, that blooms for just one hour.”(1) Afterwards, William said, “Aw, you didn't write that.”(1) The next day, when the teacher was handing out the sun kits, He said, “Well, I don't think I'm going to need this.”(2) He said this because he was the only one who 100% thought the sun wasn't going to come out. His jealousy lead him to believe he was never going to see the sun.
Jealousy also leads William to never believe anything.
Margot said that she remembered the sun from Ohio when she was four.
She described the sun. And she also made a collage of stuff from Ohio. After she described it, William said, “You’ve never seen the sun, you’ve never, ever seen it.”(3) Also, one time, when Margot was not using the tanning machine William asked her why she wasn't using it. She answered, “Today the sun is going to come out.”(1) William answered, “Oh, just because you're from Earth, you think you're special. Well, I don't think it’s coming out, in fact, I don't think it ever will.”(1)
Jealousy leads to the mean actions from William towards
Margot. One example from the story is when they were looking for sun out the window. Margot said, “It was supposed to come out today.”(2) Then William said, “Well, it doesn't look like it’s coming out, does it?”(3) Another example was when William locked Margot in the closet. He most likely locked her in the the closet because he was jealous. And all the other kids just stood there and watched him. And in the end, she missed out on seeing the sun for the first time in seven years.
Here are a lot of examples of jealousy. In the story “All
Summer Day”, Bradbury explained a lot of examples of jealousy. And in this story, jealousy got to most people, but essentially William. And his jealousy lead to his actions, which got the best of
him.
