A Dutch Road Distinctively Visual Essay
Every artist has a story behind his/her painting. I believe every person sees a painting with different view and experience it differently. Each color the artist choose in every painting has message that he or she is trying to send to the viewers. One of the common color in my ten art work is gray. Gray is seen by people as unemotional, cold, and boring color because it is neither black nor white. I believe gray can deliver many emotions and not just depressed feeling. In each one of my painting, the artists choose gray to express the water element. Water is not always blue and green and blue, but also gray. This painting is a master piece with using the gray as the element of water to express the sadness, disappointment or loss of the figure in the painting. Anton Mauve technique with the brushstrokes of the clouds and muddy ground and how smooth the clouds look using oil painting make the viewer’s feel like they are walking with figure inside the painting. Also the way the trees and background were painted to look fuzzy to make the figure stand out more. Also, with painting the sky and the muddy ground taking each half of painting, the artist main idea could be to show and express the feeling of a cloudy weather. The second painting is called Landscape with Washerwomen and Fishermen by Ladislav Mednyanszky. The painting is a beautiful view of a family washing clothes, playing, and fishing in small pound that was created after the rain or it could still be raining. The artist was trying to evoke the impression of melancholic scenery which he succeed in achieving. Ladislav Mednyanszky also focused more on the gray sky; which attracts the eye to the clouds more. He created this nature view with the gray cloud to feel like the people in the painting don’t mind the rain and still doing their everyday activities. Also, the fuzzy details of the trees and the grass makes the people stand out more and have a sense of what they are feeling. The third painting is called Flags on the Waldorf by Childa Hassam.
