A Jewish Cemetery Near Leningrad focuses on the broken hope of holocaust victims. The author represented this with the line, “They just laid themselves in the cold earth like seeds”. It represents the victims dying away as objects controlled by the Nazi Army. Bitburg is about the president of the United States coming to Germany, to show support in ending the war. Elie gave a speech stating the quote “Jews were killed by the enemy but betrayed by their so-called allies, who for political reasons to justify their indifference or passivity”. This quote stands out because it portrays how the only promise kept to the Jews was their captor. Similar to the quote “I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else.
