lost hope for love, he writes “This love feel I, that feel no love in this” (1.1.187). In this passage it is Romeo speaking, he says that the girl whom he loves does not love back. This causes Romeo to become heartbroken and depressed. It shows how powerful love can be. If someone can cry and become seriously depressed of this matter, it shows that it should not be messed with. Love hurts people. William Shakespeare, heartbroken, writes “Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like a thorn.” (1.4.25-26). Romeo is starting to believe that love is cruel and not as sensitive of a subject as he believed it to be. With lost hope, Romeo loses his want to be in love. His actions show how powerful and dark love can be. It can really change a person. Romeo is left heartbroken for now, but that will soon change.
Later in the tragedy, Romeo and juliet meet each other and fall madly in love, which the two families will not approve of. The families are rivals and can not stand each other, plus the two are only teenagers. Do they really know what love is? Question, Shakespeare writes “If love be blind, love cannot hit the mark” (2.1.36). In this section, the author is questioning if the children are too young to know what love is. He does this by saying things that make the reader believe that love is too heavy of a subject for the teenagers to understand. Romeo and Juliet get so wrapped up in their love, that they rush into marriage. Love blinded them to how hard married life is, and they forgot about their families disagreements. Continued to be wrapped up in this story of love, William Shakespeare writes “Let me be ta'en; let me be put to death” (3.5.18) and “And with this knife I’ll help it presently” (4.1.55). The first quote is describing how romeo is willing to give up his life to be with Juliet for a short period of time longer. The second quote is Juliet saying that she wants to kill herself if she has to get married to another man, whom she does not love. Both of the teenagers have threatened death for love. Love has made them have dark thoughts and feelings. They are teenagers who would rather die than be separated. But the question still stands, Do they really know what love is?
In the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet, author William Shakespeare explores the idea that love is a dark and sensitive subject that should not be messed with. “Romeo & Juliet” alerts children of the heartbreak and terribleness that comes from love. William Shakespeare does this by showing the heartbreak and suffrage that romeo goes through, and then questions the two teenagers understanding of love. Too top it all of, nothing but death and a couple days of slight happiness come from the relationship.
