There is a number of main characters included in “A Long Walk To Water.” The protagonist in “A Long Walk To Water,” Salva was a caring being who had to push through tough times.
Salva’s Uncle in the story would act as a warrior by protecting the group with his rifle. Mawien Dut Salva’s father was a powerful loving father who provided for his family. Michael was a worker at the Ifo refugee camp who taught Salva some English, and Michael took his job more seriously than others it seemed. Nya was a girl in a later time period who would carry muddy water in a jug every single day which meant she was very strong and
balanced.
There are many main events that occur in the story 1985. First, there was a war in Sudan, and in a later time period, Nya would walk to the pond. Next, Salva would hide from the war in the bush with a group, while Nya would describe the water. Then, Salva would enter refugee camps with his group, and Nya would question a drilling sound. Finally, Salva was reunited with his original family after being adopted by a family from Rochester, New York, additionally, Nya had a new school and a new water source. The part of the book I found to be most interesting is around page 63, when they killed Uncle without an actual reason to. It didn’t make sense how another Human Being could be so thoughtless over their actions. I admired how the group buried Uncle because he was a strong, responsible, and a great leader. It was rough for Salva though because his Uncle was the reason he was still walking.
I’d recommend this book to a friend because it is a heartwarming story that has well-built characters. It is also an educational story about Sudan’s history. The story will teach you responsibility and leadership if you think deeply a about it.
