Living in the south side of Chicago a poor African American family had he opportunity to escape poverty. A 10000 life insurance check upon the death of Lena's husband. Lena has a son named walter. Walter is 35 with a wife and a son. Lena also has a younger daughter named Beneatha. Beneatha Is in college. This money could mean so much for this family and so much more for them individually. So the question in all of this is: what are they gonna do with the money. Walter wants to invest the money into a liquor store. On the other hand the sister Beneatha wants to use the money to go to medical school after college. Although the 2 children had there ideas of what the wanted to do with the money Mrs. Lena had an idea of her own on what she wanted to do with the money. Lena wanted to buy a house for all of them to stay in and fund Benetha threw medical school. Five people living in a one bedroom apartment with roaches and run down walls. But that’s not all Walters wife realizes she is going to be pregnant for the second time. So much pressure for theses two families in this one small place. Benetha brakes every stereotype of a typical African American in the poverty of Chicago. She has broken the rules of race, gender and religion that her family has grown up in. she has devoted herself to ensuring her and her family a better life threw education and going to medical school. While Benetha is in college she is dating two men but both of two different entire structures and ideas to compel off of. George who is wealthy and a classmate of hers opposed to Asagi who is a very intelligent Nigerian boy who gives her a side to more of her heritage he touches her roots through exploring a side she never truly
