to the national interest of the US. I read Toni Morrison books in high school but I had no idea how much of a great influence she had on people. This article was an interesting read I loved reading about the influence she had on our 44th president Barack Obama. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/16/books/transcript-president-obama-on-what-books-mean-to-him.html?_r=0 In the first few pages of “ The Bluest Eye,” a recurring symbol in the novel included is marigold, a type of flower. Marigolds in the novels represent life and happiness. The Marigolds only bloom when things go right, I argue this because in the novel a line reads "Quiet as it’s kept, there were no marigolds in the fall of 1941. We thought, at the time, that it was because Pecola was having her father’s baby that the marigolds did not grow." The marigolds don’t bloom when things aren't going “ right,” if that makes sense.“Outdoors, we knew, was the real terror of life. The threat of being outdoors surfaced frequently in those days. Every possibility of excess was curtailed with it.” After rereading what I got from this is that being outdoors means lose. Being put Outdoors represents the loss of a home, a shelter, no place to go. Being put outdoors represents “the end of something,” as stated in the book ( Morrison 17. )
