The allegations to be decided were whether the student’s misconduct violated the Bland ISD code of conduct, whether the ARD (Admissions, Review, and Dismissal) committee’s decision was involved when requiring the student to go to DAEP. The ARD process is a meeting between teachers, staff, and parents that help determine the IEP or Individualized Education Plan for the student. In the summary judgement is was determined that the IDEA does not dictate the code of conduct, that is regulated by individual school districts. The parents/guardians did not have enough proof that ARD, the IEP, or school district did not properly execute their policies regarding the code of conduct, and a further hearing was denied.…

“Letter to My Son,” written by Ta-Nehisi Coates in 2015, was in all essentiality advice. The article begins with the author describing his own sadness at the distance between a country built on a dream, and the sobering reality he saw. He continues on to talk about how his body, his son’s body, and the bodies of many of their peers around them, are very often going to be at the mercy of people around them. Coates then speaks of escaping the danger of having his own body at the mercy of another, and his desire to rescue himself through “a clash with the streets.” Cue a change of tone in the letter as it moves on to speak of the author’s “Mecca”. Which in this case means a holy city, or a place of light and perfection. For Coates, this place…

The show took place post World War II in a town called Springfield. It was never stated what state the town was in but due to mentions of Altoona, a town in Pennsylvania, viewers are led to believe that it took place in Springfield, Pennsylvania, just fifteen minutes from where I live. I am writing this letter in a hope that we will meet one day in the future. At this state I am a seventeen year old high school student. I have been given an assignment to write to my future child about personal success. To let you know right here at the beginning of my letter, I really believe that being a good parent is a sign of personal success. At this point I am not sure if I want to have a boy or a girl but I am certain that I have every intention of being a pillar of strength and support for my child. I know some people in their thirties that do not want to have children and I must say that I admire them for recognizing that parenting is not what they desire in their life. Do not let this contradiction confuse you. Knowing yourself and accepting yourself is a great success!…
