Evolution of Seals Evolution and adaptation is a very important tool that has allowed living organisms to develop and survive. Seals are animals that have been able to evolve and adapt over time to avoid becoming extinct. Considering that seals have gone through extensive processes to meet environmental and survival challenges, they could be considered as commonly known evolved animal in today's society.
“ The definition of evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth.” The seals ancestors were commonly known as pinnipeds who had evolved from arcfold bears or otter- like ancestors. Researchers have found fossils from ancestors of modern seals that have been said to represent the evolutionary step in the organisms transition from being a land mammal to aquatic creatures. Overtime there has been evidence to support that the seals appendages have changed into flippers to allow them to better survive in an aquatic environment. The seals evolution was due to their natural environment being destroyed, and a lack of food supply. Ancestors of the modern seals were originally mostly land animals most over time were able to adapt to their surrounding to live a semi-aquatic lifestyle. The seals ancestors have also gone from having legs to adapting to their environment and growing flippers to better fit in their new environment.
