A Worn Path Eudora Welty Analysis
There have been many journeys in history, all have a specific motivation. Identifying these motivations is key when understanding the journey. I believe in The story “ a Worn Path by Eudora Welty” it shows that Phoenix’s motivation is her grandson. In the story, Phoenix encountered many obstacles. One example is when she saw the wild animals in her direction. She was not going to let those animals interfere with her journey, because she was motivated by her grandson to get his medicine. Phoenix said “ Don’t let none of those come running in my direction.I got a long way.” This means that Phoenix did not want the animals to ruin her journey to the doctor’s office.
Another example of how her grandson motivated her was when Phoenix’s eyes
were holding her back. However, she did not let that get to her. She continued with her path besides the fact that she could not see by following her footsteps. While she was in the field, Pheonix said “ My senses are gone. I too old …”This indicates how difficult it was for her to continue her journey with her impaired sight. Though, she was able to continue her path. A final example of great motivation was when Phoenix encountered the man with the black dogs. Phoenix showed no fear when she saw the abusive dogs.Just how her grandson shows no fear to his illness and the chance of dying. However, the man tried to convince Phoenix to go home. Though, Phoenix said “ I bound to go my way.” Phoenix was certain to continue her journey to get medicine to aid her grandson.
