While joining this family, it was more difficult to join in with a family member that was closed off to the family member. In group, a comment was made about when parents fight, they decide to play video games. It would be difficult to join a family member who would play video games and not understand what family members are going through. Counselors need to use clear and culturally appropriate language when discussing issues relating to the client (A.2.c). Counselors should refrain from opposing their values onto a client (A.4.a). Counselors need to be aware of their own values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Counselors need to respect the diversity of their clients, especially when the counselor’s values are inconsistent with the client’s goals (A.4.b). According to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (2015), counselors need to refrain from discrimination when working with diverse clients (Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, 2015), when it comes to the client’s age, gender, sexual orientation, and their nationality (Code of Ethics
