Long-range plans give the teacher a clear sense of how they are going to teach each standards and conceptual understanding as well as how long it will take to complete the unit of study. A long-range plan is a tool to gauge the progress toward the end of the year academic goals. It is a means of setting the instructional pace and remaining focused and energized to reach the academic goal by the end of the academic calendar. Through the creation of the long-range science plans created in EDEL 448, and the large span of content covered in EDEL 450, EDEL 441, and EDRE 442, I am confident in my abilities to develop long-range plans that will facilitate student learning, cover the required content in the appropriate time frame, and allow for student success. In EDFO 487, I learned that creating assessments that assesses the learning objectives are vital to guiding the instructional decision making when student performance data is gathered and utilized for this purpose. For this reason, the long-range plan encompasses an assessment plan that will accurate gauge student understanding.
