After reading Chapter Five of the course text, create a checklist of the eighteen guidelines for differentiating curriculum in response to student readiness as a separate document. You can group the guidelines in whatever way makes the most sense for you. You are creating the checklist to keep as a tool for use in your current or future classrooms. Once you have created the checklist, upload the document in the Doc Sharing tool (Please see the Course Materials section of the course, under Course Home in the left navigation, for a brief Doc Sharing video tutorial.). In the discussion post, identify which five guidelines will be the most difficult for you to follow and explain why. Choose an additional five guidelines that will be the least difficult for you to follow. Explain why. Include an example of how you will implement the strategies suggested in those guidelines…

It is, therefore, essential to take the time to clearly and completely identify and understand both long- and short-term objectives for specific lessons and units. When creating lesson plans it is important to be realistic about what students can conceivably achieve and how they will get there; something that is heavily influenced by our growing knowledge of researched-based instruction. Research-based instructional strategies, or strategies that are based in scientific evidence, bring the best teaching approaches and programs to the forefront of the education field. By building lesson and unit objectives and activities around such practices, children are more likely to be challenged by and interested in topics and concepts covered in the classroom, setting them on a path to success both in school and in life; one way to do this is through integrated curriculum. Integrated curriculum is meant to lessen the fragmentation that students face in a traditional departmentalized curriculum by focusing on the same theme, subject or project across multiple content areas, allowing students to create meaningful connections between key pieces of information. This allows academic material to serve as a vehicle for learning and building understanding, rather than a series of seemingly…

Our challenge as a teacher is to meet them where they are and give them the tools to learn to their highest potential. We must be skilled with differentiation to meet the varied learning styles, and have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students who need remediation and keep our brighter students enriched and challenged. Photography instructors can teach at any specific time, that is reasonable time. Instructors that have their own business can teach in the morning, afternoon, and/ or evening. If an instructor teaches in a school environment, they tend to teach at a specific time range. Usually for high school, they tend to teach at a specific time. They tend to teach from 7:25-2:05. In college, they have more of flexible time to teach, usually from times 9:10 to the evening. Usually classes are five days’ week or certain days the instructor decides to teach their classes. I demonstrate the belief that all students can learn by unambiguously stating high expectations and then by doing everything within reason to help each student reach these learning objectives to the best of his or her individual ability. Therefore, I differentiate instruction so that each student is both challenged and capable of gaining knowledge appropriately. For students who need extra assistance, I offer scaffolding support in the form of visual aids, larger font, vocabulary word definitions, or other hints that allow the student to better understand. For any student who is able to work above grade level, I offer additional or expanded learning options designed to encourage the student to work well beyond minimum requirements. In addition, I actively avoid…

In the classroom, the teacher should be working on ways to develop a positive learning community by finding out more about my students. For example, each student should fill out a Who Am I questionnaire so that the teacher can get to know their student's personalities, hobbies, likes and dislikes and therefore include them in lectures, discussions and explanations through out the year. The teacher should also engage in differentiated instruction in my classroom so that he/she can tailor specific lessons to fit different viewpoints, and abilities of students. This is also a demonstration of care and respect for students as they see their teacher notice certain aspects about their learning or personalities and tailors their instruction to meet their needs. One of the ways I would engage in differentiated instruction is by walking around the room and constantly being available to assist students. By offering them one-on-one assistance I can better gauge where their personal understanding and misconceptions are and tailor my teaching to them differently than I would to the class as a whole.…

The role of an educator is to make tough decisions that guide the effective delivery if instruction to all students, front row or back, eager or reluctant (Crockett & Kauffman 1998, p. 489). In order to improve the academic performance of all students, teachers need to use effective strategies. According to Strasser (1964), teaching strategy is a generalized plan for a lesson or lessons which include structure, desired learner behavior, in terms of the goals of instruction and an outline of tactics necessary to implement the strategy. Effective teaching is only possible if teachers would take into account the understanding…
