Today, children are coming to the schools with such wide spread levels of preparedness, emotionally, socially, and academically. Our challenge as a teacher is to meet them where they are and give them the tools to learn to their highest potential. We must be skilled with differentiation to meet the varied learning styles, and have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students who need remediation and keep our brighter students enriched and challenged. This can be accomplished through continually taking courses, attending workshops, and seminars, and staying current with changes in the field or simply learning from others in your field such as mentors, especially from your own students. Technology and advances in society have made the world a fast-paced place and our ability to access information via the internet, and faxes, changes the way we process and retrieve information and our students need to be able to function in a fast-paced society we live in. An outstanding educator is a lifelong learner who not only teaches but also continues to learn.
Patience is also an important quality to have when striving to be an outstanding educator. Patience needs to be combined with an open-mindedness to see things from more than one point of view.
