The way the writer presented the sociological issues, which includes bullying, weight obsession and peer pressure, was truly compelling. The pressure of wanting to fit in, can affect a person’s life a variety of ways. Some people are strong enough to overcome the obstacles, while others are lost upon the way; moreover, in the movie both different personalities were presented through the main character. There are lessons that are taught throughout the movie, the most crucial one of all is to not let society interfere and set a norm in which must be…

The whole movie deals with emotions and how they grow up in that environment and that reflects in next generation’s life. Their perceptions are a lot different from my culture. One thing that I felt from this movie is whatever you see from parents or elder siblings, most of the time you will follow that way and it’s also happen in my culture also. Twenty years ago at about the same time that "Cisco" and "Stingray" Santiago became leaders of the notorious Assassination gang and Luis also became a gang leader. It showed me how our education system worked and how it is controlled. I would also recommend it to someone that is wanting to be a teacher in the near future. This movie will show them the other side of education. The side were teachers are blamed for student success rates and how hard it is to become a good teacher. I feel like teachers have a good concept on why they want to become a teacher but they don’t really know what it takes. If this movie can open my eyes to our educational world then I am sure it can do the same to anyone that watches…

Something that stood out to me in this movie was the recurring theme of racial tension. There was a constant recurrence of these people vs. these people. In the beginning of the film, the subcultures of the students were clearly defined. Many of these kids decided to not care about school, grades, and their future because just surviving one day to the next was success in their minds. Their self-concept constantly made them believe that because of where they were born and what they didn’t have, that what they did in life really didn’t matter. As the story progresses you can definitely see how this affects the students’ self-esteem.…
