As the entire movie goes on each death relates to a letter of the alphabet for instance, D as in Dog Fight. This film really stood out with a huge religious theme which would be faith. A man is being prepared for a ring match, he wears a dog tag around his neck that says, “Buddy, if found please contact.” While wearing the name tag of his beloved lost dog, he is forced to fight with a different dog in the match. However when he …show more content…
begins to punch and fight this dog a part of him believes he sees his Buddy in the dog's eyes. The man begins to give up and the dog gives him a kind look, however a few seconds later the dog jumps up and latches onto his neck trying to do his job and kill this man. At this time of near death the man yells “BUDDY” and the dog stops biting his neck and both Buddy the dog and his original owner turn onto the man who was against him. This man strongly believed that the dog was his Buddy, and his faith saved him from death.
Another obvious religiously themed film was F for Fart, a weird title as well as film.
However in the beginning of the film the main character, a Japanese woman speaks about her country, Japan believing in a God and she did not. She spoke about not believing in a God because she did not see the good things he does and she believed her pure and innocent teacher was always looking after her. However when she encounters her teacher and begins to pursue her sexually an earthquake develops and gas rises from the mountains nearby. She claims the gas is from “God's Ass” and believes that because of her evil doings with her teacher, God was punishing them with an earthquake and death by gas. In the beginning of this films she claims there is no good God, however when she is found doing something inappropriate and morally incorrect she believes that God turns after
her.
The next film that really stood out with a religious theme was P for Pressure. In this film a single mother of three daughters living in a different country had to work as a prostitute each night. One night while she was working, her boyfriend found the money she was saving and ran away with it. She was saving that money for her daughter's birthday present. She worked constantly trying to make enough money. However when she was struggling she was approached by a man, whom gave her the opportunity of a job she could do to earn the money back. Here she finally contacted him and did what the he wanted her to do, which was killing a kitten during a photoshoot. She received the money and was able to purchase the new bike for her daughter. The mother was a prostitute, she needed to do what she could in order to give her daughters a good life. She seemed to portray hope for her daughters and wanted to do what she could to give them the best life possible. Her morals did not seem to be set very high, however at the time of the photo shoot she wa emotionally effected by killing the innocent kitten. She did not carry much hope to having a simple life, but she did work hard and tried to keep her morals in line. Finally the last religious theme of their being a Hell was in S for Speed. This film was the only one to speak about a Hell. In the beginning a woman is running from a huge dark man with a misshapen face. This man is chasing after this beautiful woman who is tough and daring. Finally when she runs out of gasoline in her car she gets out and the man speaks to her about it being her time to go. At first she denies it claiming she has so many things she wants to do, eventually she takes his hand and disappears. The screen is flipped to two girls laying on a mattress that is on the floor. They are surrounded by needles, filth and methamphetamine. One of the two girls awakes to her dead friend who choked on her vomit after doing methamphetamine. The woman who was dead was the same beautiful woman as before being chased by the devil. She is now dead and her thoughts while high and near death was that she was going to hell. In some of the films the characters at near death speak about angles at death and God causing their death. However in all the different countries theses films took place in only consisted of talking about Hell, realizing that Heaven was never a part of this movie. Each film only tells the tales of how someone could possibly die instead of giving insight as to what you might think before you die or happens after you die. There are indeed some hidden themes of religion and different beliefs when it comes to these twenty-six types of death. However in this strange movie only a few of the films really draw out the religious background of a couple characters. It was hard to seek out the religious themes in all of these short films, however when it comes to death, each person thinks of something before dying, even if the message is unclear.
