Abortion should be illegal except in extreme cases such as rape or when a mother is in danger of dying. Many people are against abortion; which is the act of killing a baby (fetus) while in the womb. There are a few different procedures available for abortion that are physically, emotionally, and mentally harming. In the end, people will always have their own vies or opinions on abortion. Some people think that getting an abortion isn’t a problem, while others think that it’s the act of killing a human being even though they aren’t out of the womb. This paper will explain different arguments and facts of why abortion should be illegal except in extreme cases. The two different methods of abortion are medical abortion and surgical abortion. Medical abortions involve taking the drug mifepristone also known as the abortion pill. Mifepristone is given in the first trimester and can be used up to nine weeks after a woman’s last period. The abortion pill is very effective working about ninety seven out of one hundred times. The pill blocks the hormone progesterone, which causes the lining of the uterus to break down and results in the pregnancy to end. But, if the pregnancy continues the abortion pill can cause serious birth defects. Once your health care provider gives you the abortion pill they give you antibiotics to take after the abortion pill. The second medicine you will receive is the misoprostol, which causes the uterus to empty. The misoprostol will cause you to have cramps and bleed heavily. A lot of women abort waiting four or five hours after taking the second medicine. The side affects of medical abortion are dizziness, severe cramps, nausea, temporary abdominal pain, and mild fevers. Risks of taking the abortion pill include allergic reactions, incomplete abortion, infections, blood clots in the uterus, and very heavy bleeding. Women may
