Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United states at the time of the Civil War.He was born near Hodgenville Kentucky on February 12 1809.
In 1832 he enlisted to be a militia captain defending Illinois in the Black Hawk War.Abraham is the only president American history to hold a patent.Lincoln lost five separate election before being elected.He won the 1860 Republican presidential nomination after a tough battle at the national convention,defeating notable opponents William H. Seward,Edward Bates,and Salmon P. Chase, before wading into the four way general election against Democrat Stephen Douglas,Southern Democrat John Breckinridge,and Constitutional Unionist John Bell.
