Abstract
As a nursing student, I learned to shave patients in preparation for surgery; as a public health nurse, I taught mothers to clean their infants' umbilical cords with alcohol and showed patients newly diagnosed with diabetes how to wipe the skin with alcohol before injecting insulin. Since then, high-quality research has shown that pre-operative shaving increases rather than decreases post-operative infections (Kjonniksen et al. 2002), that cleaning umbilical cords with sterile water shortens the time to cord separation without increasing infections (Medves and O'Brien 1997) and that insulin can be safely injected through clothing (Fleming et al. 1997). These are only three of innumerable examples of how high-quality studies of nursing care can influence our practice. As a nursing student, I learned to shave patients in preparation for surgery; as a public health nurse, I taught mothers to clean their infants' umbilical cords with alcohol and showed patients newly diagnosed with diabetes how to wipe the skin with alcohol before injecting insulin. The guidelines are used to prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections. Evidence based practice also has influenced the use of certain treatments for premature babies and how nursing orientation is done. This article will touch upon many aspects that research and evidence based data has changed and/or improved, so patient care is maintained safely and effectively.…

Soil reflectance spectroscopy is a well known technique to assess soil properties rapidly and quantitatively both in point (Spectroscopy) and image (Imaging Spectroscopy (IS)) domains. The quantitative approach has been developed in the past two decades by many researchers and many papers have been published on this subject in the scientific literature. Basically, the quantitative approach has been adopted from other disciplines (e.g. food, textile, pharmaceutical); whereas the mapping approach has been developed by incorporating spectroscopy with remote sensing means (IS).…
