Achilles And Odysseus Research Paper

Achilles and Odysseus are both heroes of their own epics that Homer wrote. Both heroes have different kinds of strengths. Achilles is the strongman but Odysseus was clever. An Example of Achilles’s strength is that when Achilles stopped fighting in the Trojan war, the Greeks started to lose. An Example of Odysseus’s cleverness is that when trapped in a cave with his men and a cyclops, he named himself “Nobody”. He did this so that if the cyclops called for help, the other cyclops would be confused. Another difference between the two heroes is that Achilles was a warrior and wanted glory for himself and Odysseus was on a journey to get back to his Family.

The Similarity between them is that they both did not let the gods stand in their
way of what they wanted to do. Achilles was the greatest warrior of Greece but he was going to let them lose the war due to his girlfriend being taken by Agamemnon. Odysseus was not going to let the gods stop him from getting home to his family. The stories also show that both men knew about and could handle the horrors of war. Achilles and Odysseus both had witnessed men being slaughtered by other men or creatures and they did now show any loss of leadership. Both men were heroes of Greece and were examples of Greek greatness for many generations.
