Hector is considered an egoist , Hector is a family man and he loved his wife very much. But he was concerned about the war because he feared that if the war was lost his wife would become a slave and would not have the life she deserves. He knows that if that were to happen his wife would be miserable and that is why he was willing to give up his life, but there was also a motive behind his madness he was also looking at his best interest because he was sacrificing his life for his wife and his city he wanted to be viewed as a hero. Hector’s Actions were of an Egoist but his actions to return to war was of an altruistic.

He does go to war because of his anger that he has towards hector it got the best of him. Achilles had too much pride he enjoyed fighting. Hector is seen as a more thoughtful person due to the way he treats his family and battling against the odds. The iliad finished with Hector's memorial service and the sadness of the trojans. Hector decides to set the war aside for his family. Hector also decides to dedicate and have consideration when it comes to his family. When When it comes to Achilles his only family is his mother, Thetis and his friend Patroclus. When things are not working out for Achilles he goes to his mother to complains. As time goes by Hector Kills Achilles close friend Patroclus and Achilles decides to look for vengeance on his friend's death.
Hector is seen as the respectable one. Hector understands that he is the protector of Troy. In spite of the fact that his dedication and adoration to his family, he couldn't grant his wife’s desire for him to stay home and not go to war. Hector Hector confronted Achilles with his last breath,he wanted a proper burial. Achilles denied his request and tormented Hector to death. Achilles was very disrespectful by placing Hector's body on a chariot. As time went by, the Gods mediated and convinces Achilles to give back the body to Priam. Achilles circumstances, his wrath, declined to battle with the other greek armed forces and needed them to back off. Achilles wanted things his way since he was very independent.
In the Iliad,there are many male Characters that show bravery, and many attributes and many heros in Greece.They attempt to win greatness in many fights. They each have certain qualities and which are obvious. Such as Achilles and He ctor these two individuals have many contrasts in the way they deal with trying to become a hero. in spite of their disparities and the truth that they are battling for restricting armed forces and meet each other with disdain in fight, they have various comparative qualities which consistently loan themselves to an examination between the two men. They both are very similar, They both have characteristics that they can be seen as a heros. The main path in which Achilles, who battles Greeks, and Hector, who battles for the Trojans,they both demonstrate demonstration diversely is the means by which they both have different approach on the war and the unavoidable brutality.
When it comes to identifying these two as and egoist or altruist I would have to say they both fall under the characteristics of an egoist.
Hector is a goodhearted person and he loves his wife dearly but he left his wife to fight in the war. He did not want his wife to become a slave and that is one of the reasons he went but he was also thinking about when he died he wanted his people to see him as a hero. The same thing with Achilles he was doing everything for himself he was not thinking of anyone else but himself he is and egoist. I consider him to be very selfish.
