According to Comer (2011), “Posttraumatic stress disorder is an anxiety disorder in which fear and related symptoms continue to be experienced long after a traumatic event” (p 143). Soldiers are the most common people that will suffer from Posttraumatic stress disorder. Some other examples of people that might suffer are ones who were severely neglected or abused as an adult or as a child, serious accidents, terrorist attack, being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, violent personal assault. can last for many months or years. They can experience flashbacks and nightmares were they are re-living the event again and again. Posttraumatic stress disorder can also share some of the same symptoms of depression. One or more of these treatments can help a person through posttraumatic stress disorder. Some treatments are psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, group therapy, medication, body-focused therapies (like yoga, acupuncture, or meditation).
Some factors that might serve to relieve the stresses of modern society is sharing what bothers you.
The problem for most people is keeping things in their mind and overthinking. If something is bothering tell someone whether it is a friend, doctor, or group therapy. I personally found the best way for me to relieve stress is through working out. Let’s say you are angry, kick boxing can help release the stress that is build up. A decrease or discontinue of caffeine can decrease the amount of stress a person might have due to the caffeine acting as a strong stimulant that creates a stress reaction in the body. I feel like our lives can be really busy and cause a lot of stress. People do not take the time to relax, meditate, or sleep
more.
Some people can cause stress on others. My old roommate cause me a lot of stress and would always cause drama which led to stress. After I moved out my life has been less stressful. When people cause too much stress, they should be taken out of your life. At first, veterans always came to mind when post-traumatic stress disorder was mentioned. Now I can see how accidents, victims of a terrible event, and death of a friend or family member can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder. One of the main ways to reducing stress is relaxation. With a busy life, it is really hard for me to relax. The only time I get to relax is if work is slow and when I go to bed.
War also comes to my mind when it comes to acute and post-traumatic stress disorder. You hear more about veterans having stress disorders than an accident or rape victim. One of the common symptoms for post-traumatic stress disorder is flashbacks of the moment of trauma and scary thoughts. Certain objects or places can give reminders of the traumatic event which will cause a person to become guilty, depressed, or numb. A person can have an out-of-body experience. Being easily startled, sleeping problems, and feeling tense are signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. It is important to seek help with post-traumatic stress disorder whether it is psychotherapy or even help group.
