In the United States and places all over the world it is a common belief that if you were rich you would be able to resolve all of your stress and worries. They assume that gaining wealth will lead to a life of pure and unending happiness and satisfaction. The never-ending stream of false advertising that reinforces the consumer’s desire to buy his way to the happy life perpetuates this belief.
We all idolize celebrities, but most people aren’t happy with money because frankly, they don’t know what to do with it. Sometimes the way that people spend their money can actually make them less happy. For example, people have a great deal of happiness stemming from interacting with others. If the very first thing lottery winners do is quit their job and move to an enormous but isolated estate where they don't really socialize, they could find themselves isolated and depressed. What it really comes down is that happiness is mostly genetic, and while it may buy your financial happiness it does not buy your mental, social, or physical happiness. If you're single and driving around in a Ferrari with nobody next to you, it's a bad omission. In my opinion, the basic idea to living a happy life would be to downsize your finances and living your life just slightly below your means. And no, this does not mean cooking road kill or living in a hut, it just simply means worrying more about your healthiness, relationships, peace of mind, and your happiness rather than making money a top priority. When you require less money to sustain your lifestyle, you need not work as many hours. When you spend less, you require less to sustain your lifestyle. When you work fewer hours, you have more time for yourself, your friends, loved ones, and meaningful pursuits.
Does power mean profit?
Politicians hold a lot of power in our nation. They can exercise power by shackling activity that they don't like, or the activity of people they don't like.
