The partition of India in August 1947 was a highly controversial event and has led to widespread speculation regarding its causes and consequences. Orthodox historians credit the creation of Pakistan to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the leader of the All India Muslim League, and his determination to create a sovereign state for Indian Muslims. However, this view has been contested by a number of historians, who place responsibility for the partition on the political manoeuvring of the Congress and the constitutional reforms of the British Raj. Existing communal tensions and Hindu-Muslim differences have also been blamed for the split. Revisionist historians question whether Jinnah even wanted partition and have suggested that the 'Pakistan' demand was simply a bargaining counter to gain recognition for Muslims. I am going to analyse each interpretation of the event and question the true causes for partition.…

    4. The history of partition begins with the formation of Indian National Congress in 1885 with demands of participation of educated Indians in the government. At first, the Congress was not anti-British, however, with the passage of time and increasing popularity, the Indian National Congress became active in independence of India form British rule. Skeptical of the Congress’s ruling elite of majority Hindus, in 1906, All India Muslim League came into being in order to protect and represent the interests of Muslims in India which formed 25-30% of total population. Later, the party demanded a separate homeland for Muslims in name of Pakistan. The basis for such a demand lay in the promulgation of Two-Nation theory which was first echoed in the gathering of Muslim League in 1930 by Allma Muhammad Iqbal, the famous poet, a philosopher and a leader of Muslim League. Iqbal asserted in his…

Social influences in India, Africa and Southeast Asia contributed significantly to stability, or lack thereof, in these regions during post-colonial transitions. India and Africa certainly suffered from ethnic tensions after decolonization. Traditionally, India is Hindu, however with the influx of Muslim Arabs during the previous millennium during Arab invasions, this established a significant Muslim minority. The interaction between Indian Hindus and Muslims over the next several hundred years remained strained due to unequal social hierarchy, with the Muslim minority considered oppressed by the Hindus in the 19th and 20th century. As the Indian independence movement pressed forward and culminated in 1947, in contrast to the more populous Hindus who sought a unified India, Muslims petitioned for an independent Muslim state. Muslim and Hindu religions began an almost immediate conflict with each other resulting in the Muslim Pakistan and Hindu India split. This Partition of Bengal resulted in religious hostilities and enormous displacement and migrations of Hindus and Muslims to their newly…

The State of Jammu and Kashmir is situated between Pakistan and India. Among the key reasons for tension between Pakistan and India is the key problem of Kashmir. Whereas Pakistan has repeatedly termed this the "core issue" in its relationship with India, India has maintained that this matter was settled with Kashmir's accession to India in October 1947. As far as India has been concerned, therefore, the only issue for discussion has been what India regards as Pakistan's continuing illegal occupation of part of Jammu and Kashmir, an occupation that began in 1947–48, during the war between the two. About 63 per cent of the territory is under Indian occupation; while the rest, 37 per cent, is with Pakistan, called "Azad" meaning independent Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). Total population of Kashmir is about 13 million. Population of Indian occupied Kashmir is about 7.7 million and remaining 6 million is with Pakistan. Kashmir dispute is the oldest unresolved conflict between Pakistan and India. Over which both countries have fought 3 wars. Pakistan considers Kashmir as the fundamental political dispute with India, where as India does not consider Kashmir as a dispute, in fact it considers it as its internal affair. The world has accepted Kashmir as a disputed territory and as an international conflict that needs to be resolved.…
