Being born and African-American female has given me certain advantages in the community over African-American males. For example police brutality is a very real phenomenon in my culture and in my community. Because I am not a male, I am not subject to the same discriminative practices by law-enforcement. I have certain advantages when it comes to being questioned about my whereabouts and or perspectives on certain matters. Because African-American males are highly suspect, and often times falsely accused they suffer unfair racial stereotypes that African-American females do not have to experience. Why would these things be different?
if I have been born and African-American male in my family life would have been much harder. I would have been subject to all of the negative experiences that my brothers were subject to. I've probably would have experienced incarceration, gang activity, police brutality, And discrimination in the workforce as well as in the broader community. I was raised in West Fresno in the late 60s and 70s it was a very poor community with lots of racial discrimination. However, being a female I had greater opportunities to excel and to exceed with the various programs that preferred females over males. If I have been raising African-American male, I have no doubt that I would have experience greater violence and the violent I have encountered as a female. My lifespan would've probably been shorter as violence in our neighborhood is often male on male crime and the majority of victims in our communities are African-American males who die at the hands of other
