In this study, work of children found in survey is classified into three categories- skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled. These categories are also applicable to their parents’ job. 81 percent of respondents’ fathers were engaged in unskilled job and all the mothers and children were too working of this kind. Data collected in the sample are reasonably true that unskilled parents are unorganized and low-paid. Family income of this vulnerable lot is not sufficient to support children for good and professional education. So, children are forced to drop school and support their family with their meager earnings. These jobs are not available on regular basis and remunerations of employees are very low. Moreover, it is pertinent to mention here some unskilled jobs. They are like casual labourers, thela-pullers, rickshaw-pullers, street-hawkers, helpers etc.
To know the plight of child labour, their duration of work is also collected. The condition is somewhat good for half of total child (48%) laborers in the sample who are doing work below 5 hours a day. Another 40 percent children’s length of work is extended between 5-8 hours a day and for remaining 10 percent of the respondents were in very pathetic situation who are forced to work more than 8 hours a day.
