Three forms of theoretical integration are end-to-end, side-by-side, and up-and-down (2012). End-to-end theoretical integration proposes that one theory will present itself before or after another in temporal ordering of causal factors such as: weak social bond; negative peer association; and crime, which are sequential, based on the temporal ordering of two or more theories in terms of timing (Tibbetts, 2012). The conceptual integration uses the different terms of the theories used but uses of the meanings and operations similarly (Tibbetts, 2012). The results are to create a framework the help in understanding behavior by terms with similar issues. Another theory, theoretical elaboration allows theorist to add concepts from other theories that have not been fully developed (Tibbetts, 2012).
