Adversity And Neighbors
Both articles “Breaking Through Uncertainty-Welcoming Adversity” by Jim McCormick and “Neighbors” by Lien Chao, the authors expressed how the protagonist or the author himself gain benefits from taking risks. While learning from the risks they have taken, McCormick tends to have greater benefits from those dangerous sports. Likewise, sally prefer to face problem directly and honestly like how she interacts with her neighbors.
McCormick, a sky diver who is still afraid of jumping off the planes after 2100 times of jumps. However, he still risks his life by abandoning the main parachute and deploys the reserve parachute. This way he could gain “a renewed confidence and certainty” which may later increase his self-confidence and more certainties

Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…

At multiple points in life, people are faced with judgments ranging in difficulty and significance. And every decision could be affected by outside influences which could persuade people to make a choice. Sometimes, one is faced with the choice of which juice to drink in the morning, a very minute decision to make. There are other, more substantial decisions like choosing which college to attend or whether or not it is the right time to buy a home. Depending on the size of the decision and influence, everything that happens in one’s life could be crucial moments that determine the final outcome of one’s life. This was seen in Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima and Bernard Malamud’s The Natural. Both author’s used the main characters to show that one’s future is determined by the choices made throughout life, and the outside influences that guide the choices. Anaya and Malamud use other’s expectations, other’s guidance, and decisions made as significant points that help determine the outcome of the main character’s future.…

These actions with uncertain outcomes allow humans to reach new potential. It is the notion of doing new and uncomfortable things, which propel movement and change in our world. If each person only did the things they are comfortable with, the things they’ve done before, then society would remain stagnant. These risks and difficulties make success infinitely more satisfying, because one knows the threats, and uncertain outcomes, and once overcome, lead to a personal satisfaction and growth unachievable through ordinary, everyday actions. Additionally, risks make life exciting and worthwhile.…

Life is full of risks. Some risks are bad, yet some are good. Carl Hiaasen in the book Scat wants to teach the reader that taking some risks can lead to a positive outcome. For example, Nick and Marta took a risk when they snuck into into Mrs. Starch’s house. On page 135, Carl Hiaasen in Scat wrote, “Nick wasn’t sure if sneaking into Mrs. Starch’s house was the bravest thing he’d ever done, or the dumbest. But he felt certain that the world’s meanest biology teacher wasn’t really absent from school because of a family crisis. Something else had happened, something serious..” Sneaking into the house of a feared biology teacher was definitely taking a risk. Taking that risk allowed Nick and Marta to learn that Mrs. Starch had not been inside of…

Individuals choose not to go on adventures due to the fact they have witnessed, experienced, or sometimes even had that gut feeling of fear of the unknown. In the short story “Eveline” by James Joyce and in the poem “Sadie and Maud” by Gwendolyn Brooks, fear of the unknown and life’s happenings ruined certain individual’s life altering adventure. My own experience as a young adult immediately succeeding high school, debating on whether or not to move away for college has taught me that life is too short to turn down an adventure. Even if I am afraid of the unknown, I’d rather suffer the consequences than to regret my prior decisions for the rest of my life.…

"Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant." What Horus described in this quote, meant that when hardships or impossible tasks face a person, and if that person has the courage and will to achieve them, the man will uncloak his true strengths. No one could disagree with this, including me. Believing in our own skills and believing that anything can be achievable, creates a way for us to prove others wrong and prove yourself right. Millions of people have done extraordinary things, and although we have no heard every story, we have heard many terrific and exciting ones. A man in Japan who pursued his dream of becoming a ninja, two very brave men who rescued people from a car upside down in a river, and the very extraordinary Fauja Singh who became the famous 100- year-old marathon runner. Izzy Arkin, a living legend for inspiration. Three years ago he lived in US and he worked at a job he completely despised. He became stressed out, overwhelmed, and downright depressed. He knew others felt like that. He knew that many people had to sacrifice their dreams and work in depressing jobs just as he did. Yes, everything in the job created opportunities for him, but he felt dead inside. The job did not fulfill his true dream. Therefore he decided to quit his job and pursue his dream. He moved from the US to Japan to pursue his childhood dream: to become a ninja! His true courage to quit his job and life in the US and to accomplish his long lost and recently achieved dream of becoming a ninja and that became an inspiration to others. He used his pursuit of a dream as a "vehicle to courage, inspire and educate others to follow their dreams." He has his own site: The 30 Year Old Ninja, and every day, he receives emails where people acknowledge him as an inspiration and how he has "changed their life." Life changing also applies to an incident at Summerville Bonavista Bay, on August 19, 2007, where John…
