In most cases, the action would be to buy a product or service while other are simply to raise awareness. Whatever the case may be, money is poured into advertising every day. Marketing agencies try various ways to convince people to buy their products using different persuasion techniques. After first examining an advertisement, one could analyze how each detail in the ad was specifically designed to affect its audience in a way that convinces them that they need what is being advertised. We live in a fast paced society that is ruled by mass media. Every day we are bombarded by images of, perfect bodies, beautiful hair, flawless skin, and ageless faces that flash at us like a slide show. These ideas and images are imbedded in our minds throughout our lives. Advertisements select audience openly and subliminally, and target them with their product. They allude to the fact that in order to be like the people in this advertisement you must use their product. This is not a new approach, nor is it unique to this generation, but never has it been as widely used as it is today. There is and old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" and what better way to tell someone about a product than with all one thousand words, that all fit on one page. Take for example this ad for Hennessy cognac found in Cosmopolitan, which is a high, priced French liquor. This ad is claiming in more ways than one that Hennessy is an upscale cognac and is "appropriately complex" as well as high-class liquor. Analyzing an ad is a process of figuring out what the writer of the ad wants you to think of the product they are trying to sell you. Whether it’s the perfect picture of what you may look like when after using the item or a warm feeling created by the images, colors and textures within the ad persuades the reader to buy. How you interpret the advertisement can all depend on what is going on in your life at the time you read it. Let’s say you had an accident that left you with a scar and you see an ad for a cream that diminishes scars and marks. You would definitely consider buying the cream depending on how it is advertised. If they show incredible results, along with things that help it to be more believable (like FDA approval signs, etc.), you would certainly buy it. I have chosen to analyze an ad for baby formula. The ad I have chose claims that Hillary calls any Trump supporter " Deplorable." It goes on to show evidence in a speech that Hillary gave during a debate. This connects the evidence to the claim by stating exactly what she said. She insists that the reason most people support Trump is because they are racist, sexist , etc. The one problem I see in this campaign is that he is exposing reasons to not vote for Hillary, rather than why to vote for him.
