In 50AD, the Romans were becoming more knowledgable in creating a sufficient water system that they began building aqueducts. The architecture and design, of what is known at the Pont Du Gard aqueduct in Rome, is remarkable. There are many similarities and differences between Pont Du Gard and the water system in my hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Both water systems are functional in their own structural design. They each have a certain function for their own society at the time which make them unique.…
The book, Shays' Rebellion: The Making of an Agrarian Insurrection, is a historical account that provides an interesting perspective on the accounts of many struggling men, earning wages in the agricultural force, who were driven to form a rebellion against the government and the court system, because of a crisis of debt and credit that struck after the Revolutionary War in the years from1786 to 1787. The text as a whole provides a good analysis on the subject at hand and achieves its goal to the reader. The source would be helpful to those who already have an understanding about this period in history; however, because of the lack of a decent timeline, for those who are new to Shay’s Rebellion, the book may be hard to follow. There is good evidence provided in the text to support his ideas, and from my knowledge on the subject I agree with these ideas. Author Szatmary, takes the stance that Shay’s Rebellion was an ironic, three-stage occurrence that just so happened to be one of the crucial factors leading to the formation of the United States Constitution.…

The first two pictures that are being compared are Shirin Neshatb “Allegience with Wakefulness” 1994 and Jasper Johns “Three Flags” 1958. In the “Allegience with Wakefulness” is instrumentalist. It is instrumentalist because it is the writing on this person’s feet is not English and there is a gun between the person’s feet. This might be taken as things that are different from what we are used to be taken as threat. American people in general have a closed minded way of looking at things. The other aesthetic perspective for this art piece that are noted is linguistic. Linguistic are has symbols as well and the gun could also be seen as a symbol. It has words written in it too specifically on the feet. This artistic piece is powerful because it can have so many meanings to it and can mean many things to many different people. “Three Flags” is a linguistic painting. It is obvious that this is a linguistic painting because it is the American flag. The American flag is tied strongly to American culture. It is a symbol of our freedom. Imitationist is the next aesthetic perspective that is seen in this paper, obviously because it looks just like the American flag. The American flag looks like it is popping of the page because of the way they get smaller as they move forward. Both of these art pieces have a strong message behind them. The first one, “Allegience with Wakefulness” has a language in it that most Americans would not be able to understand. It also has a gun which could mean a lot of different things in this particular picture. The second picture “Three Flags” is pretty much the opposite of that. It is very recognizable for everyone in the American culture. It stands for freedom our freedom.…
People often toss around the notion that “art is subjective.” We have heard the phrase “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” one too many times growing up. We all understand that everyone holds different perspectives, but maybe we have become numb to the actual meanings behind these words. We are the ones who succumb to the aesthetics of art without truly understanding the contexts in which it arises from. We seem to think we know all about a culture once we possess or even create a certain “stereotypical” work of art. We get so caught up in the beauty of it all, but we need to question what exactly aesthetic values do in creating a false sense of reality. Writers like Teju Cole understand this urge and give us a wake-up call that we are living…
This building once the seat of Parliament is now one of the second most-visited tourist attractions in Germany and was built in 1871. To get this project approved, Christo and Jeanne-Claude had to gain the Parliament 's approval. In order to do this, they personally went from office to office, and they wrote many letters to each of the 662 members. On February 25, 1995 the Parliament held a debate and after 70 minutes the project was approved. This was a huge project with 600,000 feet of polypropylene fabric that had to be fireproof and nine miles of rope used. It took seven days to wrap the building and was finished on June 24th. Over five million visitors saw this…
An esthetician is a person who is specialised in the treatment of the skin. Estheticians help people with problems to do with their skin and also prescribe courses to keep the skin out of problems in the first place. Estheticians can work in a spa or a salon, independently, treating their own customers, or assisting a doctor. The last two, however require higher knowledge since they perform more complex prodedures, for example chemical peels, and they need a special certificate to apply for the job, even though all estheticians need a certain certificate to prescribe any skin/body care products or retail them to clients.…

Genre paintings have always made bold statements regarding the “everyday life” of whichever time period they were completed in. Scenes could range from parties in a domestic setting in France, to bitterly realistic views of street and slum life during the Gilded Age in the United States.…
In this paper the author will examine and assess the culture concerns and influences in today’s society along with the mixed culture as it directly relates to the effect it has on the criminal justice system. The author will address how does the concerns of the culture effect justice and security administration and practices, contemporary methods used in societies with mixed cultures, how do these influences relate and affect nondiscrimination practices, and if the famous criminal justice historian Sir Robert Peels nine principles to organize a police department were presented today would these methods and theories work.…

I will also discuss other developmental influences that have shaped my personality.…
Floria has used many features of visual language which is very appealing to the human eye. In this photograph she has directed into a gothic meaning, with black hail, eyebrows, and clothing, with a touch of red as a highlight. She has used false fingernails which appeals to the audience as her fingernails now fit fight around the cat which adds great positioning to the…
So I researched in myself what art means to me. Since art deals with paintings, music, dance, architecture, drama, sculpture and literature, I can consider myself as an artist. Why? ‘Cause I’ve been singing in the choir of our church, I love doing and making artworks even if I’m not that good, I enjoy dancing, and so on and so forth.…
