First point: Society is slowly becoming more liberal, with an annual increase of 1% over the last 2 decades in support of same-sex marriage, according to Domestic Partnership Florida. Now, a poll done by CNN shows that 50% of people support gay marriage, with only 48% saying it shouldn’t be legal. However, religion proves to play a big factor in determining whether or not you think this is “right”. The argument that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve, has just a simple flaw that is overlooked- if God created the first two human beings so that there would be no deviation from what he wanted, then we must conclude, using this same logic, that it would be contrary to His will that we have anybody with a different skin color or eye color than Adam and Eve. If we allow for men to have multiple wives, otherwise known as polygamy, then why don’t we allow for homosexuals to marry?
Second point: As stated in our Declaration of Independence, everyone has the right of the pursuit of happiness. So why are homosexuals being neglected from this simple right? Common law marriage, which allows for couples to have tax breaks and hospital benefits, does not count for same-sex couples even if they have been together for 30 years. Some states, such as Vermont, have already acknowledged that same-sex couples have the same rights,
