The grueling labor that slaves did was most likely the reason America was able to be colonized. The European colonizers then turned to African slaves as the answer to their labor shortage. Resources such as, gold, silver, sugar, coffee, and tobacco that the African slaves mined and gathered were shipped back to Europe and would continually entice sponsors to invest in the exploration and colonization of the new world. If these resources had laid untouched in the Americas because the Europeans were unwilling to work or gather them then no patrons back in Europe would have been willing to give their money to these men to go and explore far off lands, specifically the Americas. If there is nothing to show for the expeditions then the investors would have stopped investing money because there would have been nothing to prove that they would be making a profit by sharing their money with the explorers. No new investors would be willing to put money towards the exploration and colonization of the undiscovered land either seeing as there was no money being returned to the original investors. While slave labor may have destroyed African civilization, it also built a nation that has been thriving for centuries. The enslavement of African people made the building of a thriving nation possible, not the conceited and indolent
