The group that i'm going to to be talking about is African Americans. African Americans mostly come from Nigeria/Cameroon. Some oppressions are in 1619 the first African American servant arrived in the American colonies. Less than a decade later, the first slaves are brought into New Amsterdam.
Later in time more slaves are needed because of the creation of the cotton gin in 1793. Which means the slave population for African Americans is increased. But then in 1808, congress bans further importation of slaves. At this point african Americans have been dealing with slavery for a while & their getting tired of it. So by 1831-1861 around 75,000 slaves escape to the north.
Another oppression
African Americans dealt with was the civil war. In 1865 the civil war began. But two years later president Abraham Lincoln proclaims that all slaves in rebellious areas are forever free. In 1865 the civil war has officially ended. Also, in the same year Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.
African Americans later than started having to put up with discrimination. Most of this oppression was going on in the south. By 1879 thousands of African Americans migrate out of the south to escape oppression. Later Tennessee passes the first Jim Crow segregation laws. Similar laws were passed over the next 15 years throughout the southern states.
In conclusion, throughout the years African Americans have had a lot of oppression. Some African Americans still deal with oppression till this day. Many of them still get discriminated or some still get treated unfairly in different places.
