These Native Americans inhabited these areas for thousands of years and was the agricultural base for the American industry. Unfortunately white settlers wanted to grow cotton on the land already owned by the Natives. Andrew Jackson forced them to leave their land and walk dreadful miles across the Mississippi River. The horrific journey is ultimately known as the Trail of Tears. It could have easily been prevented but Jackson wanted the United States to profit off of the European settlers. A man who symbolizes the “common-man” would not lead to the arguable genocide of Native Americans.
