The African Heritage dances represent freedom and respect. It was a way to pay respect to fellow god that are no longer living. It represents freedom because they are express themselves through movement and they are letting the spirit control their movement. They are also releasing the worries.
While watching the dances the dancers moved with ease across the floor. They would go into the crowd of onlookers and dance around them. The dancers never stayed in the same space for long periods of time in any of the dances. The movement of the dance gave me the understanding because the dancer did not seem to be in their own bodies. They who be seen swaying left and right and falling on the floor. Depending on the dance they would have props in their hands which may be their way of clear out the demons.
