African Renaissance is synonymous to Afrocentism and Pan-Africanism,they all share a common goal. All these terminologies have being a common currency in African for some time now. Though promoted by past leaders, but it became pronounced and made popular by Thabo Mbeki. This paper gives the root meaning of the concept of African Renaissance as it also exposes the ills caused by colonialism. This paper goes further to expose diverse heroes who stood for the freedom of the African continent.It went further to expound Pan-africanism and factors that is militating against African unity. The paper throws more light on the MDGs as it ponders on ‘African Reaissance’s’ vision to transform and salvage the black race. Consequently, on the other hand to reveal the distinct pillars of African Renaissance that is capable to foster growth and development in the black race and also the distinctiveness of Africa has being explitly outlined. The paper recommends independence to some degree of the continent Africa to enable for self-sufficiency, political, economical, social and cultural emancipation.
