it has occurred in seaworld history, but even more surprising it not discussed more in society. It's bringing up opinions and parents to blather on media, whether they should be bringing their children to these exciting aquatic animals show sights or not. Also if these thousand pound whales should be kept crowed in captivity or left free in their natural, wild habitat. Once people watch the documentary and or read this article, I feel as if they would have enough new information to form a new or stronger opinion on seaworld and these frequent incidents and their consequences
I agree that we should keep wild animals such as killer whales in the ocean.
I believe that no matter how trained you are, animals can be unpredictable especially ones with history of violence. Even the workers at SeaWorld didn't know the history of Tilikum and possibly why he acted out with Dawn. Though I think these enormous whales should not be captured for entertainment purposes, not all of these public places are for profit. Seaworld is a profit organization, as stated “ A corporation like SeaWorld only changes because it's financially prudent to do so” (Wallace) In a way I don’t support seaworld. I support zoos, aquariums and circuses if they are not harming animals for entertainment of money. SeaWorld has had many incidents with animals and I think that the places like aquariums and zoos, that are not for profit organizations try their best to create a habitat safe for the animals living there. “They feel that zoos and aquariums, for the most part, try to recreate a natural environment for the animals and, more importantly, don't disrespect them by having them perform all day long and do things that are completely unnatural for them.” (Wallace) They try to remake their habitats, so that the rescued
aquatic animals feel comfortable and treat them as if they were family. At SeaWorld it's clearly stated that the animals were not in good habitats and that's probably why they acted out. In SeaWorld, when they state they are keeping the animals safe, when in reality they were trapped in captivity. Meaning thousand pound killer whales, like Tilikum were put into dangerous habitats, crammed into tight moguls for transportation and where they spent most of their time. Its “psychologically traumatizing” and hazardous to all the whales especially being in a tank with ones they did not grow up with. Whales bond by relationships with their family. They feel trapped with no way out, in frustration. A woman stated in blackfish that “If you were in a bathtub for twenty five years, don’t you think you’d get a little psychotic“ (Blackfish) and I completely agree. The lives of these whales are more important than the education of the children. If shutting down SeaWorld will prevent these whales from being psychologically and physically harmed, and tragic loss of trainers, then it's the right thing to do. Though these workers will lose their jobs, these whales are animals and they shouldn't not be torn from their homes at young ages, to be entertainment they have no control or agreement to. As humans, we have the ability to say no. if we could understand their language they would have the same answer. The killer whales were trying to get us to understand what life is like for them in these places and the pressures and SeaWorld's expectations. We will never know what it is like to be the whales in this situation, but we can help them live happy in their natural habitat, instead of using them for money.
