The reason they become so influential is because the ways they managed their civilizations and the culture that greatly impacted the behaviors and the ways of life of the common citizen. To begin, both Mesopotamian and Egyptian cultures worshipped in many gods that they believed manipulated nature and the human life, also known as a polytheist faith. Also, expanding on the idea of religion, both civilizations also believed in afterlife, if it meant a paradise-heaven or punishment-hell, which influenced many major religions in the future. Another similarity between Egypt and Mesopotamia is that they originated from river valley-agricultural societies. As Egypt originated on the banks of the Nile and performed a majority of its farming in the Nile Delta, so did the Mesopotamians originate in the Fertile Crescent in the Middle East between the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers. A third comparison between these two early civilizations is that they had their own alphabet and a way to communicate and converse with their people. The Sumerians, which settled in Mesopotamia, created early complex alphabet containing 2,000 characters which were transmitted through a cuneiform, likewise the Egyptians used hieroglyphics, or picture drawings, to transmit information to one another. In many of these early civilizations the concept of writing was used in similar ways. One reason writing was vital for the early civilizations was because it boosted funding and economics. The ways it promoted funding was it introduced taxation and tax collecting and it allowed the government to make executive-diplomatic trade agreements, and irrigation expansions. Also, writing improved religion in the ways that temples were covered in religious writings, traditions and rituals could be written down and remembered by everyone. Most importantly, writing helped socially in early civilizations. Now people could write to one another and record important information. Politically, writing helped record history, make official diplomatic agreements, and form executive written contracts or agreements. The most important way writing helped early civilizations is that it progressed and furthermore developed the civilizations. The ways it did it was through education. Through education intellectual thoughts and ideas could be shared amongst people and therefore advanced the civilization in many aspects including culture, mathematics, and science.
