In Alan Woods “I Sell My House”, the excerpt shows that discrimination was happening between Jews and gentiles. ”Whenever a house was sold it was to Jews, and across our street all three gentile families had moved away” (Wood 385). Wood stated that the only people who moved into Jewish neighborhoods were Jews. Wood says that Christians were precluded from a Jewish neighborhood. “They’re the ones who give the terrific impetus to making communities one-sided. Once they decide an area
is predominantly Jewish or Catholic, they perpetuate the situation by showing houses only to Jews or Catholics” (Wood 387). The author says that once there is a large population of Jews or Catholics that only they can live there. The author says that Jews and Catholics are not allowed to live in the same neighborhood as one another. “After all my pious moralizing, I had succumbed to the same fear I deplored”(Wood 389). The author was explaining that there was no longer any confidence left throughout the rest of the book. Wood used irony and explained the quote along with using his choice of words to create a mood for the reader.
To conclude Alan Woods “I Sell My House” explained how Christians and Jews were segregated from one another. There are many examples to show how Christians and Jews were separated from each other's neighborhoods.
