shot and with Grief and Stellenbosch the buff lady breathing down his neck. Alex Rider is being pressured by a variety of people that are pressuring him in a variety of ways.
The first character that was noticeable that was pressuring Alex was Alan Blunt. He was pressuring him by attempting to blackmail him because he really wants to get him to go to the academy Point Blanc. Point Blanc is French for white point. Mr Blunt does pressures Alex in book one by threatening to blackmail him, again. Another way Alan pressures Alex is by sending him to the rich british household the Friend family. The 15 year old daughter that lives there was forcing Alex to go “hunting” with the surrounding rich families. The boys were messing with him and shooting expensive shotguns. The girl also forced him to go horseback riding which almost got them ran over by a train. In the end Alex shoots the girl with a tranquilizer gun from a heavily modified harry potter book and gets flown off to …show more content…
France.
The teacher drags Alex to France for “dinner” and there is some sedative in the lasagna. He is taken to a basement to be photographed. This means that the teacher has a higher status point than Alex. Then he is flown to the academy by helicopter. The helicopter is owned by the school and it is controlled by the school as well. All of the academies staff are at a higher status point than alex. Alex is easily outranked by all of the kids because of their experience at the school.
Alex is easily mistaken for just and average British kid and can be just be looked upon and be easily mistaken for a simple kid that doesn’t have a care in the world other than his own.
Point Of View
In this book the point of view revolves mostly around Alex and his allies.
The choices that Alex makes can change the point of view. The point of view for the first 100 pages is about Alex because it's all him and sometimes other friends. For the remainder of the book it goes back and forth between different characters. Alex sees things as many people can not see it, he plans way ahead of time just to be safe and ready for whatever challenges present themselves. As Alex tries to progress different people come into the book that are either protagonists or antagonists. One example of an antagonist would be Dr. Grief who runs the academy and turns out to be Alex ’s adversary. Dr Grief has a point of view that is completely different than Alex’s. He takes life for granted and likes life easy while other people do his work for him. He is one of two teachers in the school and thinks that a monarchy is the best way to go,”Today we are going to study Adolf Hitler, one of history's greatest leaders.”PG 198 Grief wants to have his students watch a human dissection firsthand with Alex as the center of attention. In other words Grief wants to dissect alex without any
analgesia.
Mrs Stellenbosch, the other one of the teachers was looming down on Alex from the beginning. Mrs Stellenbosch didn't like alex from the very beginning because he had a sneaking suspicion that Alex was up to something that didn't conform to her standards. Alex had something going from the beginning that the academy wasn’t just teaching, they were cloning. Alex went up to see if they were trying to mess with his point of view and that the school has only one purpose
Important Moments With Meaning
There is a few moments in the book that are both related with Alex and Grief and their interactions. One instance is when the two of them meet for the first time in the academy. This singular moment is really important because they had absolutely no idea they would become enemies. The other really important moment is when alex launches the snowmobile at Grief in the helicopter. That is really important because it is the last time they meet and that is the last time anyone will meet Dr Grief. Those two moments are extremely important. When Alex and Grief meet for the first time in the office there is a certain tension in the room, like a father-son conversation but amped up a notch. Both the teachers were in that room at the moment and they were taking mental notes of Alex for future reference. At that point alex feels very tense because he thinks he might give something away of his actual self. He feels inclined to get rid of all of the guards and flee the academy and return to London and to Jack his housekeeper. Instead he has to stay at the school until MI6 pulls him out. Alex pulled through that moment without showing his true, average London schoolboy identity that someone would have seen back in England. The other important moment would be the last time Alex and Grief meet and the last time anybody meets Grief. Alex launched a snowmobile at Grief that was trying to fly away in a helicopter. Alex had to do this because of all the torture and pain he was put through. People suspect MI6 allowed him to do this because of the suffering, and the pain he had to go through getting to the academy. Alex had to go through a human dissection threat and Grief almost succeeded alex didn't know how to snowboard. Alex snowboarded down the massive slope that the school sits on.
Alex fended off the South African madman and A not quite human partner in crime. He survived a trip down a mountain on an ironing board then smashed into barbed wire and escapes with a few cuts and bruises. How does someone survive being judged and criticized by every person he meets by having nerves of steel and facing anybody who challenges him without hesitation. To recap, Alex Rider survived being shot by guards and then snowboarding on an ironing board going 100+ miles per hour then to come to a complete and brief stop on a barbed wire fence.
