Alex Rider Crocodile Tears Sparknotes
I am reading Alex Rider: Crocodile Tears by Anthony Horowitz and I am currently on page 356. Before the current state of the plotline, Alex continues his fieldwork throughout various environments for the special operations division of M16 that resides in London. However, the mission takes an entirely different angle as Alex is then anonymously kidnapped and held hostage by Desmond McCain, the CEO and president of First Aid; First Aid is a malicious company that advertises itself as being a beneficial charity. Soon after, Alex then travels with McCain and his crew to Kenya via air transportation for interrogation and questioning. In the events following, Alex experiences the luscious Kenyan landscape simultaneously as he fills his mind with …show more content…
Therefore, many possible outcomes could result from Alex’s limited time of strategizing. The first result that I predict from Alex's limited time is that Alex will acquire serious injuries and possibly perish. The first set of evidence to back this claim up is that Alex has no experience in the Kenyan savannah. To illustrate, Alex has remarkably little stamina when it comes to long distance running in the unrelenting heat of Africa. In addition, there are no resources such as water available anywhere near nor does Alex know how to hunt or find food. And finally, Alex does not know how to navigate through the grasslands; he also does not have the coordinates of any nearby villages or towns. All these factors may cooperate, resulting in the instant death of Alex. Likewise, another possibility as to why Alex will not survive is because M16 and McCain are violently dispatching the area. For example, McCain’s skilled tribesmen are viciously searching for Alex throughout the grasslands to assassinate him and kill anything that meets their path. If they, however, manage to fail, McCain would be pleased to go search for and torture Alex himself whether it is by plane or APC. The last reason as to why Alex will not survive is due to M16’s plans to bomb the area with missiles as a last resort. The reason for M16 to destroy the area is because the missiles have a minuscule error margin in removing the plague that McCain planted within the wheat’s genetic code; However, Alex may be unlucky and will likely die from the strikes. On the contrary, Alex may survive the entire experience and end up back at the M16 HQ in London, and there are many points as to why this may happen. First of all, there are Indian intelligence agents dispatched to Kenya by the Research and Analysis Wing (R.A.W), and Rahim happens to be one of him. The goal of

Rat Kiley tells a remarkable tale about an American war medic, Mark Fossie, who ships his girlfriend, Mary Anne, over to Vietnam to be with him. “..the guy sends her the money. Flies her over. This cute blonde... just barely out of high school... Comes right out to the boonies.” (90). The troops stationed at the medical base take a liking to Mary Anne; she reminds them of the girls back home. Time passes, and Mary Anne begins to evolve. She's curious about everything, especially Vietnam; the people, the land and the war. “She was curious about things... she liked to roam around... asking questions... She had a good quick mind... The war intrigued her. The land, too, and the mystery.” (95, 96). Soon, Mary Anne hangs around with the elite Green Berets stationed at the medical base. She goes on ambush and patrols the wilderness with them. Mary Anne enters Vietnam as a naïve child, but the land changes her into a brutal she-warrior. Vietnam infatuates her; it fills her body and soul with the desire to be free within its mysterious realm. “...everything around it, the entire war, the mountains... villages... the trails and trees... rivers and deep misted-over valleys... Sometimes I want to eat this place. Vietnam. I want to swallow the whole country... I just want to eat it and have it there inside me... you can't feel like that anywhere else.” (111). Mary Anne loses…

As well as learning several languages. Looking back on his life at one point in the first book, Alex came to the surprising conclusion that he’d basically been trained to become a spy.…

Firstly, Alex’s mentality radically changes as he faces one hardship after another. One instance where his mentality is challenged, is when he has to use his taekwondo skills to brawl for life or death. He had not known that he would ever have to use his expertise of taekwondo for self-defense, especially when his opponent wants to end his life. For one example, after Darla’s mom is brutally raped and…

So he wants to be there to support them and express to them that they can have a future, and open their eyes to the possibilities they have in their future. He even wants to help the same type of children that had beat him up. Those children are his main target. Alexie could have forgotten about where he had come from, but he didn’t he goes back, and he’s helping these children that otherwise wouldn’t get any help, or ever have been shown that just because they are Indian, and they are from a reservation that they are smart. He won’t give up on them. Alexie is a very good role model for these children that don’t have very many role models in their lives at least any good ones. It’s a very special thing he does; not very many people would do what he is doing. Even in today’s society people still think like when Alexie was a child. They think that Indians are dumb drunks, but people don’t realize what all they have been…

He begins to want a family and in order to have children he needs a wife. He stops committing crimes and tries to become good, this time because he wants to. Alex’s free choice is restored and he finally choices correctly, in the eyes of the world. The question of free choice being evident still remains and I think by the end of the book Alex has it. He makes all of his own decisions, influenced really only by his own desires and his environment. Alex is responsible for whatever happens to…

Bone uses irony to show that the tests contribute nothing to Alex’s road to ‘manhood’. Alex’s tests include, a game of chicken, abusing a homeless man and hunting down a jacket that doesn’t even belong to him. These actions are not the makings of a man as they only show that Alex can be easily manipulated. After claiming a packet of chips from a businessman, Alex begins to see people as “opportunities” for the taking. Bone displays the change in Alex’s nature “There’s no way anyone would call him a wimp or a wuss. Not anymore. He was a hunter.” This belief that he is masculine is shown when he is sat on by a homeless thief who stole his jacket. He felt embarrassed and ashamed that he was not living up to his own expectations. He explodes in fury, trying to perpetuate his image of masculinity “He rolled and kicked with a rage that was like fire inside of him. It burned through him consuming all the dread and fear,” Bone compares this retaliation to fire, powerful but uncontrollable. Bone uses this metaphorical reference to show that revenge is not reliable and does not achieve…

After reading through the novel, it is clear that Alex’s continuous rebellions did nothing but steer people away from him. For example, from the time that Alex is first arrested to the time when he is released, Dim goes from being a rebel to being a cop. Also Pete ends up giving up his life of crime in order to settle down. These examples show that although Alex may have rebelled against authority, he was not a leader despite his two stints at leading a gang. It is significant to also note that not only did Alex lose his friends to authority, he lost himself to the authoritarian figure as well. Instead of fighting till the very end like McMurphy or Luke, Alex decides in the end that the violence and rebellion was not worth the effort on his part because his rebellion truly had no purpose to it. This lack of purpose is why Alex’s rebellion against authority ultimately…

Many of the techniques that Alexie uses allow his writing to improve in sophistication rather than be a simple story of an Indian boy that learns how to read. In the beginning of this essay, Alexie uses forms of ethos in order to improve his credibility in the eyes of his audience. Since Alexie is telling his audience that he remembers learning from a book from when he was three years old it is kind of hard to believe. He…

First of all, we see that Alex is in the innocence stage because he is naive, inexperience and pure-hearted. At the beginning of the story, Alex naively thinks that wars are like games and that everything is about control. But unfortunately, wars and battles are not a simple thing as Alex thinks they are. There are serious consequences behind the war that Alex has not notice about, for example, he does not know that many people will die in the war. As Alex likes the military stuff and history, Alex reveals, “it isn’t the killing and ghoulish stuff that interests me. It’s the battle plans and the strategy and the weapons. It’s like chess or curling or bridge — those are all games I really” (Bell 17). This quotation shows that Alex naively thinks about wars and battle plans are like games like chess or curling or bridge. Wars and battle plans are completely different thing from chess games because the consequences behind war and chess game are entirely different. Losing a chess game is not a big deal, it won’t…
