Alfred's Involvement With The Mean Streets
His name was Alfred. He is now the product of depression and a shattered life. He is now lying down in a basement, lying still, and very cold. His body is stiff, his joints are frozen, rigor mortis has set in. The chemicals in his body have paralyzed his screams. Alfred’s broken life drove him to the one thing that could make him “feel.” The drugs made him alive, and his addiction got worse and worse as the years went on. His desire for a family, friends, and love, drove him into a gang. The only people he felt would back him. Alfred was so wrong. He was so alone and so afraid. His gang was known as “The Blades”. Thier rivals were the “Mean Streets.” Alfred's involvement with his gang meant he was automatically rivals with the Mean Streets. He fought them for drugs, for business, and for control of the city. He wanted them dead, and the feeling was mutual. His intent in his final days with the Blades were to “down” each and every single member of the Mean Streets. The mean streets got their name by a statement their leader heard, and that was, “The streets ain’t nice to nobody.” Unfortunately for Al, he found out first hand they they were …show more content…
That same exact night the Mean streets also were going to rob the store. As expected, the two gangs being there blew up into a massive gang fight. Shots were fired, knives were driven into bodies, and lives were lost. Alfred took cover behind the counter where the cash registers were held. It was kill or be killed, and Alfred thrived. The good thing was he lived unwounded, the bad thing was the few people still alive after the fight were taken into custody by the police. Alfred was appointed a lawyer by the state, and lost the case. He was found guilty of murder, possession of drugs, and robbery. He was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in jail, unless he gets out and put on probation for good behavior, but he was not sure he would ever make it out

Abstract: The purpose of this lab was to determine the food dyes present in a selected beverage, their concentration, and then replicate the solution within a 20% margin of error. The beverage we chose was Gatorade Frost Riptide Rush. A spectrometer was used to determine which food dyes were present in the sampled beverage, red 40 and blue 1 were determined to be present. The next step was to determine the concentration of the dyes, this was done by testing the absorbance of the red 40 and blue 1 dyes at varying concentrations; 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%. The results for each dye were then plotted in a graph and a trendline was added. The slopes of the trendlines (y=mx) for red 40 and blue 1 were then used to determine the concentrations,…

The book is a collection of stories that Fr. Boyle experienced or heard during his time with Homeboy Industries. He explicitly tells in the Preface he does not want the book to be a memoir or a “How to deal with gangs” book. Rather, his intentions are clear in the title of the book: to show the power of boundless compassion he experienced and displayed. Through a series of stories of the youth he took care of, troubles he faced from the neighborhood and local authorities, the impact he and Homeboy Industries have created, and the deaths of people close to him, Fr. Boyle wants to cause the readers to feel sympathy and urgency for not only the situation in Los Angeles, but also similar situations near us.…

By examining how the characters describe their feelings while on drugs, one can pinpoint areas of insecurities and conclude how they feel while sober. For instance, the group “luxuriated,” which is a word typically associated with being on vacation or in a stress-free environment. Drugs are the temporary escape from reality. As mentioned earlier, the characters are chasing after an unattainable American Dream which is, in general, wanting to feel content with their life. Through drugs, they are able to fill this void and achieve “a feeling of deep and all pervading satisfaction.” The words “deep” and “pervading” both put emphasis on how fulfilling the satisfaction is. It goes deep within their core and flows through every inch of their body. Also, the narrator uses hyperbole when he describes how the characters feel “all pervading” and “absolutely knowing.” These exaggerated…

The glistening, white snow fell slowly to the ground outside the window. The distinct shapes of the snowflakes shown; the light from the street lamp seeping through the cracks. The mumble of the heater in the corner of the room; the faint sound of the blood dripping onto the floor were the only sounds. He lay there; motionless. The thuds were entering the silent room once again. The creaking of the wooden floor grew louder and louder. Still the light of the street lamp shone through the window and onto the far wall. The nasty figure walked into the murky room. Only its shadow appeared on the far wall behind it. The boy in the bed was Eli. His tiny eight year old body was red with his own blood. Then……

“Sixteen years on the streets and you can learn a lot. But all the wrong things, not the things you want to learn. Sixteen years on the streets and you see a lot. Street gangs have been around in the United States as far back as 1783. In contrast to today’s modern street gangs, many early gangs on the east coast were even multi-ethnic, the gangs were compromised of boys from the same neighborhoods (Howell and Moore, “History of Street Gangs”). Just like todays gang members these boys engaged in violence and the gangs compromised these boys basic socialization through adolescence (Howell and Moore, “History of Street Gangs”).…

    A Place to Visit

I’ll write about a place to travel. That is Vung Tau Sea in Vung Tau city. It is one of the interesting places to visit for a holiday. It is about 100 kilometers from HCMC and can be reached by car or motorbike. It is crowded every day with domestic and foreign visitors. There are a lot of hotels near the beach, so you can rent a room and enjoy the beautiful sea views. The beach is very nice with smooth sand and the sea is very clean with small waves striking the shore. This is really fantastic with fresh air therefore you can go for a stroll on the beach and build sandcastles, pick up stones, shell-fish or crab. The weather is humid; you can swim in the sea. Domestic visitors like to sunbathe because Vietnam is a hot country. At night, you walk along the street near the beach; you can see a lot of cafés. They are beautifully decorated with chandeliers rolling down from the ceiling when you walk past the front door. Whenever I come here, the first thing I do is swim, then have a party and take lots of pictures with my friends. It’s unforgettable. If you have time, you can stop by seafood market to buy seafood for your parents or you can drop by a souvenir store to buy souvenirs for your friends because it’s very cheap. You will have a wonderful time when you here. When I come here I feel very happy and relaxed. All the stress and worries go away with the laughter and fun I have here. I think I really enjoy this place. I’ll come here on my next…
