In the text “Looking for Alibrandi,” published in 1992 by Melina Marchetta discoveries are uncovered through the interpersonal relationship between Josie and Nonna Katia. In an attempt to grow closer to Nonna, Josie agrees to look at her old photos, which leads on to the discovery of Nonna’s affair with Marcus Sandford. Marcus was an Australian man who fell in love with Nonna in the 1940’s who could give her one thing Francesco couldn’t, a child. Josie is angered by this as it condescends everything Nonna has told Josie and Christina throughout their lives. “ ‘You-are-a-liar,’ I whispered hoarsely. ‘All our lives you’ve told us what to do, when to do it.
