view on the human life style. David Fincher was born on August 28,1962 in Marin County California. His mother worked in a rehabilitation center for drug addicts and hi father work as a reporter for Life magazine. By the age of eight Fincher knew that he wanted to be a director. He would study photography, painting and sculpture, and he loved being in charge ("Fincher, David"). At the age of ten his father took him to see the movie American Graffiti directed by George Lucas. A short while later George Lucas moved in downed the street from the aspiring director. This allows Fincher to feel becoming a director was not only a dream but a possibility. While he was still in high school he would use a home made optical printers to shoot Super 8 movies (Goldstein). Never attending film school, Fincher instead got a job as a camera loader for Korty Films. He then went to went to work for George Luca's Industrial Light and Magic Special effects studio. This is where he got his real start, while working with movies such as Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. After a while Fincher felt his creative views were restrained and desired to leave. He then teamed up with producer Steven Golin to produce Propaganda Films ("Fincher, David"). Right before Propaganda films creation, a Fincher shot his first commercial was for the American Cancer society, featuring a fetus smoking a cigarette, it was his first chance standing on his own two feet (Knapp). The commercial business started to perk up and Fincher began to shoot commercials for Coca-Cola, Nike and more, then transitioning into music video. Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun" and Madonna's "Vogue" were just some of the few that won him awards ("Fincher, David"). In an interview taken place years later Fincher talks about how he "didn't like any of them", and how he "did that stuff for very selfish reasons. [He] wanted to play with a certain piece of equipment... use to kind of fuck with something,... kind of play." Even though he used these opportunities more for experimental and learning processes he always took them seriously (Knapp). Se7en a breakout movie of its time used dreary settings, colors and sounds to bring to life three distinctly different views on a killer and his victims.
A movie with an ending "that probably has the most depressing ending to any mainstream Hollywood film", is loved by millions. A key element that really brought the sadistic outlook was the motion partrayed in the film. In many aspects like Fincher's movie Fight Club, Seven is a reality check that made the audience think. Fincher himself in an interview says, " movies these days don't make you feel anything", thus making his motivation spike. It is the ending and the beginning that make Fincher so memorable. The head in the move is "how this movie is going to be remember", says Fincher. He is known for his dramatic twist and heart wrenching plot flairs that can make a person watch the movie three more times and feel more and more each time. From the time of the beginning movie Se7en was seen as a regular cop movie, then a thriller, then a horror, but it turned out to be all of them, as Fincher says, "just kind of fuck with their ideas of what entertainment should be" kind of movie(Knapp).This kind of mind mesmerizing also occurs in the movie Fight Club. The . beginning is a shot into the end, a gun in the protagonist mouth, and a "jolt of fry-your-head-in-the-microwave music" playing. You've already begun questioning the sanity of the film and yourself. (Klawans). The movie begins with what Fincher wants to people to do when watching his films, feel true emotion. Fight Club and Seven are known for their ending scenes and CGI effects, but both introductions are similar in certain regards. They both contain crucial evidence that gives away the emotion of the ending. With Morgan Freeman's quiet normalized morning turning into a frenzy of death and days, Se7en shows the true depth of human normalcy that Fincher usually slaughters. Both with differences show the complexity and simpleness of life. His use of visual cues
and abnormality create a "progressive text as one that challenges conventual means of representing reality.... as a product of ideology and not as a manifest of replication reality." Even with their close characteristics, what truly sets David Fincher apart from all other directors is the individual characteristics of each movie he produces. His first widely known and recognized movie, was Se7en, a masterpiece compared to his previous movie Alien 3. From the start, Se7en was going to be the first of its kind.
