Living in the United States undocumented can be a terrifying experience since Immigrants are forced to find unsafe, laborious jobs that can lead to abuse just to make a living. America holds the dream that represents the essence that outlines us as a country; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That is not the case for immigrants. There is an
injustice by having immigrants live in fear, due to their legal status. They do everything untruthfully to avoid ruining their chances of a better life.
There are many attractive things in America that can portray a flourishing life for immigrants that come from third world countries. Many families see America as their safe haven from corruptions, violence and the lack of opportunity provided in their homeland. They worry for their kids and what their home country has to offer to them. Seven percent of all immigrants were DREAMers. Those children had no choice or say in coming to this country. They should not be held accountable or kicked out of the only the place they call home. DREAMers do not identify themselves with the culture or the roots of their country, but the country they grew up in. They have adapted to the norms and traditions of America.
With the significant growth of immigration in the United States over the last few years, understanding the economic influence of immigration is crucial. Accordingly, to Octavio Blanco, it will cost ICE an average of 10,854 dollars to deport one immigrant. There are 37 million immigrants in America. This means that this will cost America about 4 billion dollars to deport the country’s “burden”. However, the DREAM Act provides security and stability for a better future by allowing them to get a higher education that will inevitably aid the economy.
It is important that we do not look at the DREAM Act as a bill that will instantly legalize certain things and makes everything uncomplicated for everyone. It is apparent that the passing of this proposal can propose some evident benefits to both Americans and immigrants. All these potential benefits that could happen if the DREAM Act is finally passed.
